Riding from the age of 9yrs old I starting out at the local riding school having lessons this led to having a first pony on loan from a local farmer eventually leading on to having my own horse at 13yrs old... On leaving school I did a two year course at De Monfort University taking a National Diploma in Horse Studies where I was the only student to come away with Distinction and was head student of my year. My first chance of a real competition success was not until I was 20yrs old when I purchased a dressage schoolmaster, he was a 15.3hh Danish Warmblood called Blue Lacoste aka ‘Jack’,a proper cheeky character well known on the circuit for being not the easiest to ride, I took him from Novice up to Advanced Medium qualifying for regionals for each level . My next good horse didnt come for a while, although I loved the dressage I wanted to get back into competitive jumping. I purchased Gunner a 4yr old 15.1hh Irish lightweight cob a lovely type to do all jobs. He was a real confidence giver, he won many unaffiliated events, loved his hunting and I took him up to BE90- gaining alot of experience and I enjoyed educating him. Unfortunately BE90 was his comfortable standard to compete at and found any higher level was getting difficult for him, I was itching to step up a grade so a heartbreaking sale last year financed my new horse Ballytarsna D Cloverguy aka ‘Guy‘.
Coming from a family which are not from a horsey background horses have always been a learning curve with a lot of hard work put in. I don’t have any on site training facilities nor do I have an unlimited budget but make do with what I have just making my ambitions a bit harder to achieve but I relish the challenge! I achieved my 2013 goal to compete at BE100 now my ambition is to train and compete Guy to BE Novice level. Guy has potential for this level not only does he have a fantastic attitude towards training, the ability to compete at this level ---------- we have the most super relationship.
