Unaff showjumping elms farm ec, caythorpe
With events being cancelled due to weather and ground conditions I played it safe for Guy's first party out. Elms Farm has got a lovely big arena with a fantastic surface so no chance of Guy slipping. Thinking it was Easter weekend with previous events cancelled and for once a good day weather wise I instinctively though Elms farm would be busy with people wanting to get the steeds out so allowed an hour per class. On arrival that was quite different, very disappointingly not many people were there and they were already on my class!! Guy got tacked up rather quickly while mother entered me. Learning the course while I warmed up I was very pleased how calm Guy was-this was his first proper outing for 6mths and parties can be exciting with him getting tense. The warm up went to plan as some people went in front of me to do some clear rounds allowing me a bit more time-thank god!! This was the 85cm class although on the low side for Guy it was better for both of us to have a jolly round at this height first. Unfortuately having the second last fence down just by catching it with a back toe, but apart from that a confident giving ride. We decided to enter the 95cm as Guy usually jumps better the bigger the fences. Guy was a genuine horse round this course as numpty me kept putting him too deep into the fences, such a good horse he jumps where ever I put him so some lessons to be learnt, he got heavy in my hand after fence one so had fence two down but I did feel we improved as we went on, the last fence was superb-typical.
On conclusion the two fences down where of rider error, I need to sit up and leave Guy alone into the fences. Although I am a quiet rider I tend to want to place him rather than letting the 'fence come to me'. The most important part is that Guy enjoyed every minute being out again and behaved beyond his years. Hacking him out the next day there was no sign of any stiffness or tightness to be worried about over his back-breathed a sigh of relief- my boy is back!!!!!
